**Short answer **

The Danish Robinson list (Robinsonlisten) is the CPR register's list of people in Denmark who have opted out of marketing. A call centre may not make sales calls to anyone on it, even in the few sectors where cold calls to Danish consumers are otherwise allowed, unless that person asked to be called. Check every list before it reaches your dialer.

The Danish Robinson list (*Robinsonlisten*) is the CPR register's list of people in Denmark who have opted out of marketing. A call centre may not make sales calls to anyone on it, even in the few sectors where cold calls to Danish consumers are otherwise allowed, unless that person asked to be called. Check every list before it reaches your dialer.

If you run a call centre or BPO in Poland, the Baltics, Portugal or anywhere else and you've just signed a Danish client, this is the guide to read first.

## What is the Robinson list?

Every person in Denmark has a record in the CPR register, the national population register. Anyone can add a marker to their record saying they don't want marketing. Once a quarter, the CPR register compiles everyone with that marker into a list: current name, current address, and any previous address within the last three years ([CPR Act s. 40(4)](https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2023/1010)). That list is the Robinson list.

Over a million people in Denmark are on it. In practice, almost any Danish consumer list will contain people on the list.

Businesses are entitled to buy a copy from the CPR register, but may not pass it on or publish it ([CPR Act s. 40(5)](https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2023/1010)).

## What does it cover?

According to the Danish Consumer Ombudsman (*Forbrugerombudsmanden*), the Robinson list protects against two things ([source](https://forbrugerombudsmanden.dk/alle-emner/uanmodede-henvendelser/robinsonlisten)):

1. **Marketing sent by post with the person's name and address.**
2. **The few sales calls to consumers that would otherwise be lawful.**

Businesses that want to do either must check the list beforehand.

## Why "the few sales calls"?

Because Denmark bans most cold calls to consumers outright. Section 4 of the Consumer Contracts Act (*forbrugeraftaleloven*) says a business may not call a consumer to sell something without the consumer's prior request ([source](https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2025/1184)). There are four exceptions, for calls about:

1. ordering books,
2. subscriptions to newspapers, weeklies and periodicals,
3. insurance,
4. subscriptions to rescue services or patient transport.

The Robinson list is what still protects people within those four exceptions. If someone is on the list, calling them to sell is unlawful, even about insurance or a newspaper subscription ([Consumer Ombudsman](https://forbrugerombudsmanden.dk/alle-emner/uanmodede-henvendelser/telefonsalg)). The legal basis is section 10(4) of the Marketing Practices Act ([source](https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2024/1420)).

The one way around it: the person asked you, specifically, to call (section 10(5)).

## What it means for a call centre

Your Danish campaigns will usually fall into one of three types:

| Campaign | Robinson list | What else applies |
| --- | --- | --- |
| One of the four exempt products, cold list | Must be checked. Remove everyone on it. | Your own do-not-call list |
| Any other product (energy, telecom, alarms, solar…) | Useful as a warning flag | Every person needs a valid prior request (consent) |
| Business-to-business | Must be checked for sole traders | Company opt-outs in the CVR register |

For the second row, the Robinson list doesn't make a call lawful. Only valid consent does, and the Consumer Ombudsman has fined several companies for calling without it. See [Calling Danish consumers: the rules in 2026](https://robinsonlistenapi.dk/en/guides/calling-danish-consumers-rules-2026).

## Common traps

**The list was checked once, months ago.** The Robinson list changes every quarter. A list checked in January may not be clean in May. Check right before each calling round.

**The client says it's checked.** Maybe it was, against an old edition, or maybe not at all. Ask when, and against which edition. Or check it yourselves.

**Addresses don't match.** Danish addresses have floors and doors (`2. tv` means second floor, door on the left) and are written inconsistently. A careless match says "not on the list" when the truth is "not found". That's a false yes.

**Sole traders.** Calls to businesses are generally lawful in Denmark, but a sole trader run from home can be on the Robinson list. Then the call is unlawful.

**No address.** The Robinson list holds names and addresses, not phone numbers. A list with only phone numbers can't be checked. See [How to check a Danish lead list](https://robinsonlistenapi.dk/en/guides/check-danish-lead-list).

## How to build the check into your operation

1. **Check at the door.** Every Danish list is checked before it's loaded into the dialer, not after.
2. **Hold out the unsure rows.** Anything that can't be matched safely stays out until someone has looked at it.
3. **Recheck each quarter.** Active lists are rechecked when the CPR register publishes a new edition.
4. **Keep a record.** For each list: when it was checked, against which edition, and how many rows. Your Danish client will want this. See [Check receipt](https://robinsonlistenapi.dk/en/guides/check-receipt).

## How Robinsontjek helps

We connect to your dialer (Adversus and others) or a drop folder for client lists. Every list is checked against the latest Robinson list before it's used. Each row shows what we found and what matched. You choose the level you go by, once, and rows at or above it never reach the dialer. If you don't choose, we use level 1, the most cautious. If an address can't be read, the row says so and is held back until someone has looked at it. Every list gets a check receipt in English or Danish.

The annual plan is DKK 15,000 with setup included. BPOs with many Danish clients can get a partner deal on volume. See [BPOs and call centres](https://robinsonlistenapi.dk/en/industries/bpo-call-centres).

## Questions and answers

### Does the Robinson list apply if we're calling from outside Denmark?

Yes. Danish marketing law covers marketing aimed at people in Denmark, wherever the call is made from. Your Danish client is also likely to require it.

### Can we just download the list and check it ourselves?

You can buy it from the CPR register. It's a large file in a Danish format, and matching Danish names and addresses reliably is harder than it looks. It also may not be passed on, so it can't be shared with your client or other sites.

### Does it cover email and SMS?

Not directly. Marketing by email or SMS generally needs prior consent in Denmark anyway.
