The rules
The rules that apply when you call Danish consumers or send them marketing addressed by name.
The Robinson list (Robinsonlisten) is kept by the Danish CPR register.
It lists people who have opted out of marketing. A new edition is produced once a quarter, with current name and address and any previous address within the last three years.
Businesses are entitled to a copy from the CPR register.
They pay a cost-covering fee. It may not be passed on or published.
It covers marketing addressed by name and the few lawful sales calls.
If someone is on the list, you may not send them personally addressed marketing or call them to sell.
You must check before you mail or call.
Cold sales calls to Danish consumers are banned as a rule.
The exceptions are calls about books, subscriptions to newspapers, weeklies and periodicals, insurance, and rescue or patient transport subscriptions.
If the person is on the Robinson list, the call is always unlawful, even in the exempt sectors, unless the person has consented.
Unsolicited door-to-door sales are banned, with no exceptions.
Unaddressed mail "to the household" is not covered by the Robinson list.
The separate "Reklamer – Nej tak" sticker scheme applies instead.
Sole traders run from home can be on the Robinson list.
Then marketing addressed to them by name is unlawful.
Danish companies can register advertising protection in the CVR business register.
Their CVR data may then not be used for direct marketing.
A new sign-up can take up to three months to appear on the list.
