Launching in Denmark? Get the contact rules right from day one.

Denmark bans most cold calls to consumers, and addressed mail must be checked against the Danish Robinson list. We check your lists, set up the check with your agency or call centre, and give you a check receipt for every campaign.

You may recognise this

  • Playbooks from other markets assume cold calling is allowed. In Denmark it mostly isn't.
  • Your agency, data vendor and call centre each assume someone else checked the list.
  • Fines in Denmark have reached DKK 700,000 for a few dozen unlawful calls.
  • Nobody on the team reads Danish legal texts.

How we solve it

  1. We explain which channels you can use for which products, in plain English.

  2. Every Danish list is checked against the Robinson list before it's used.

  3. We connect to your agency's, call centre's or print house's workflow.

  4. Each campaign gets a check receipt you can file.

Denmark in one paragraph

Sales calls and doorstep visits to Danish consumers are banned unless the consumer asked for them (Consumer Contracts Act s. 4). Four product types may be cold-called: books, newspaper and magazine subscriptions, insurance, and rescue or patient transport subscriptions. People on the Danish Robinson list may not be called even about those, or sent marketing addressed to them by name (Consumer Ombudsman). Email and SMS marketing generally need prior consent.

What that means for your launch

Channel Can you use it?
Addressed mail Yes, after checking the Robinson list
Unaddressed mail Yes, but respect "Reklamer – Nej tak" stickers
Cold calls, exempt products Yes, after checking the Robinson list
Cold calls, anything else No. Only people who asked to be called
Door-to-door No
Email, SMS Only with prior consent, as a rule

For energy, telecom, alarms, solar and similar products, the phone is effectively closed unless you have valid consent, and the Danish Consumer Ombudsman enforces it. In April 2025, an electricity company paid DKK 700,000 for calls to 27 consumers without valid consent combined with misleading sales talk (source).

One check, in one place

Launch campaigns usually involve several partners: a local agency, a data vendor, a call centre, a print house. The risk is that each assumes another has checked the list. We put the check in one fixed place, typically right before a list is used, and give you a check receipt for each campaign.

You can upload lists yourselves, or we connect to your partners' workflows. Setup is included in the annual plan.

Questions and answers

Can we cold-call Danish consumers?
Only about books, newspaper and magazine subscriptions, insurance, and rescue or patient transport subscriptions, and never people on the Robinson list. Anything else needs the consumer's prior request.
Can we send direct mail?
Yes, to people who aren't on the Robinson list. Check the list right before each mailing.
Can we knock on doors instead?
No. Unsolicited doorstep selling to consumers is banned in Denmark, with no exceptions.
